The Place of Flowers; Hananokuni
this is going to be reddened text────────────────⋆⋅☼⋅⋆───────────────
What would have been an idyllic landscape once is now torn, worn away by war and bloodshed. However, the eye of the storm has long since passed, and now remains a land free to form and grow as it desires.
Though the Takehana 武花 Family has long since passed, their history remains, and there are those who now settle the land to honor both their own sacrifice, and those the Source over.Maybe now, after all this time, you’ve found somewhere you can truly belong…

─⋆⋅☼⋅⋆─ OVERVIEW ─⋆⋅☼⋅⋆─
Hananokuni is an 18+ SFW group that caters to roleplayers who desire a more in-depth and involved experience than is normally available at venues, but without the restriction of needing to belong to a specific FC or world. We aim to create scenarios that weave together to form a cohesive overall plot where characters can grow or interact with those who wish to grow. This environment is a set piece for the world and will change as the world overtime does, but it is the characters who will drive that change and interact with the setting. If you’ve struggled to stick with groups because the RP feels ‘off’ to you because either events are inconsistent or the overall plot feels more outlandish than you’d like, then this may be the group for you. This group was created because, after a year of attempting to flesh out our characters’ stories, we never found a group to truly call home, so we want to create something for similar characters to interact and to maybe possibly find a ‘home’. We wanted lore-grounded RP with stories that involved deeper, and possibly darker, themes that FFXIV sometimes touches on, but that RP doesn’t seem to touch on enough.Hananokuni will have an overarching storyline that you can participate in, or you can instead visit during oneshot events. Your character doesn’t need to have an Eastern focus unless you wish to become a villager; they merely need to pass through the area once in a while. Each person, no matter how brief, contributes to the overall plot.We are not a criminal or yakuza community, and we are not a yokai community. FFXIV is inundated with those, and we want to provide a more lore-compliant and lawful environment for characters who struggle to fit in with other Eastern communities. We are also not incredibly high fantasy; magitek is a part of history of course, but we don’t cater to characters who aim to live purely off of technology. We also don’t accept heavily modded characters, races that do not exist in FFXIV, or races that are mostly utilized as enemies in the game (voidsent, beasts, monsters, yokai/auspices). We appreciate your creativity, but this would not be a fit for your character. Beast races (wolfskin primarily) ARE accepted, but we do not have a mare synchshell; we appreciate the base game for what it is, and believe that mare is sequestering those who prefer not to use it. This is a community for those who do not heavily mod, or don’t mod at all. (Modded screenshots and characters with more unique aspects ARE accepted, but within reason. Please ask a mod for more details). You can check our lore page to see what we generally abide by, but if anyone ever has any questions, reach out and posit them! Leadership will have a final say in most cases, so feel free to reach out to us first, but if we are not available, feel free to discuss as a community.OOC RULES:No OOC discussion of politics. This does not apply to FFXIV politics and what a character believes; there are many characters with many more viewpoints. However, if you have a Garlean character, you may have to fight harder to speak your mind.Be respectful of others and their OOC viewpoints. Remember, OOC doesn’t equate to IC. We are not our characters. Please remain as lore abiding as you can, or at least have a lore-plausible explanation for history, actions, and characters, and if need be, be ready to defend your choices.Be limited with mods; no lore-breaking mod characters will be accepted. Ask a mod for further clarification. If any of this interests you, you can fill out our early access form here to be contacted at a later date and/or added to our CWLS.
─⋆⋅☼⋅⋆─ Lore ─⋆⋅☼⋅⋆─
The war is over; Garlemald has withdrawn their forces after the Eorzean Alliance and the Warrior of Light have forestalled the Final Days. They have left a battle-scarred and wounded Doma, and you can see it in the land. Gashes left in the earth, broken weaponry, armor. The echoes of battles from years past. You see such scars as you journey through Doma’s western half, crossing the One River. The land is yet healing, though, and villagers and trade occurs, though it is not yet flourishing. You travel further and come upon a strange, small village. There are ruined buildings, houses from an era passed, yet there is life. Movement. People conversing and laughing. Despite the tragedy, the ruined earth, the blood spilled, a field of flower yet blooms in the distance. It is there that you find life again.Hananokuni was a once-flourishing village near the western border of Doma, named as such for the fields of wildflowers that would bloom seasonally. It was here that the Takehana family called home, a noble Samurai family who would train soldiers and warriors before sending them away to serve in the Capital to the Rijin family. If all went well, anyhow. The Takehana Dojo churned out respectable and reliable Samurai, and though it didn’t rise to fame as other Dojos did, it kept the village fed, and decades passed without much chaos or strife. After the passing of Takehana Sensei, the Dojo was in a period of limbo, owing both to the desire of the eldest son to travel to the capital for business purposes, and the threat of Garlemald hanging over the doorstep.Unfortunately, being near the western border, Hananokuni was one of the first villages to fall, and the residents either fled or were killed.Years passed before survivors of the war attempted to live there again, and it was there that the last remaining heir to the Takehana family returned to see his home destroyed, forgotten by time. Not wanting it to languish, and desiring to create a home of his own after years of floating between locales, never fitting in or belonging, Marvin of Othard decided to rebuild the manor. Though not to its former glory, and quite small compared to what it once was, it serves as the center of the village: a place to belong for those who wish to rise beyond their pasts. For those who wish to remember the past, but move on and grow.
─⋆⋅☼⋅⋆─ Story So Far ─⋆⋅☼⋅⋆─
Though Marvin is still struggling with demons of his own, he and his father, Valre, have been able to make small, humble abodes for the two of them. Marvin's weekly travels to Kugane have also see him meeting some travelers of his own, spreading the word of the village to each in turn. Though not many have yet arrived, the pair of them continue to work until the day when Marvin's twins arrive, marking a new generation in the village.TBC...
─⋆⋅☼⋅⋆─ Restoration Progress ─⋆⋅☼⋅⋆─

So far, the Takehana Manor has only had two areas restored: the front receiving area (where people can collect jobs and gather) and the internal garden/outdoor spot. Those are circled in red. Marvin hopes to work on a shrine area to the left or right next, a tea ceremony room, and an infirmary and hostel room. Perhaps you can also assist in this endeavor...The next major project is the rice fields. A growing village needs a way to feed their villagers, and though Marvin has enthusiasm, he hasn't been able to make much leeway on restoring the earth, let alone growing plants. This will be the first major Hananokuni project. So far. Valre, one of the villagers, is attempting to plot out suitable land while brainstorming what to do with the local plants and the soil available. Perhaps your character can assist with this?
─⋆⋅☼⋅⋆─ Information ─⋆⋅☼⋅⋆─
This group aims to build a setting from the ground up. Though the founders have laid a foundation to work off of (highlighted in the lore section), the aim is to allow other members to influence how the plot and story develop. Each decision matters, and each member can lay a piece to the puzzle. This will unfold during roleplay sessions and events. Allow your characters to grow, develop, or become more chaotic; every piece builds the puzzle. This is a PG-13 group, which means that some heavier subjects will be discussed and tackled, but things will still stay appropriate to FFXIV. If members wish to explore matters beyond that, they will have to coordinate with each other as consenting parties. This group also hinges on participation. Obviously, timezones, jobs, and other real-life obligations will come first, but if you’ve come here just to observe, it may not be the best fit for you. Please make an attempt to interact with others and, at the very least, communicate when you will have longer periods of inactivity.Though we won’t force RP styles on each other, the group flourishes with open and honest communication. Be cordial, but don’t be afraid to speak your mind. If you have concerns with a particular member or way of operation, you can either bring it up with the group or contact a mod privately. We’re adults here, so let’s communicate and collaborate.Villager vs Traveler: Villagers are RPers who have applied for residency and passed the inquiry process. They can choose to be involved in villager-only events and gatherings, and they directly influence the growth of the village and the overall story. Travelers are passers through who, while not allowed in all events, can still influence the village, but they will not be allowed access to more intense village events, ceremonies, and battles. Travelers can either remain, passing through as they wish, or they can apply to become villagers after an amount of time. Both villagers and travelers will be treated with respect, and quality of RP will not vary, merely the focus and topic. If you wish to become a villager, you must first partake in at least ONE RP session with the group, ideally with one of the leadership. After this, you will apply to a [form] and fill out the required [questions]. These will be both IC and OOC questions. After the mods review the application, we will either ask for clarification on the form, deny the form (with both IC and OOC suggestions for future submissions, if necessary), or we will ask for an IC interview to officially onboard your character. We currently have a limit of three villagers per person, but we may adjust and revise this limit as time goes on. There is no limit on travelers.Village Leaders: Leadership of the village consists of a group of individuals either elected, chosen, or volunteered to fill positions that the village requires to be led. Currently, Marvin of Othard, as the oldest and possibly only living heir to the area, is the defacto leader. All decisions flow through him, though he often delegates tasks to other reliable individuals.OOC, these will be fellow mods of the group, either chosen by the current group of mods or someone who volunteers for the position.Events: Events will be the primary way the overall plot is pushed forward. The most common event will be gatherings and celebrations in the village. These require less planning and can involve everyone and serve as a way to develop the culture of the village further while allowing everyone to pitch in their two cents. The other event type will be mission objectives available only to villagers and will involve exploration, assignments, and combat. These events aim to work with the worldbuilding of FFXIV and Doma to explore the political strife in the area, deal with more tumultuous plot hooks, and allow adventuring -type characters to find fulfillment in an otherwise low-combat environment.Though we will have combat, no one is required to partake, and such events will not unfold into war, large-scale conflict, or division of the village. Think of these as fates; some will be solo instances, others will carry out a story as the characters follow leads.
─⋆⋅☼⋅⋆─ Leves and Fates─⋆⋅☼⋅⋆─
Hananokuni offers two different methods through which community members can become involved in more focused, plot-based roleplay, both dm'd by villagers and dm'd by leadership. The Hananokuni Leve Board is akin to a community bulletin board; villagers can leave requests ranging from gathering herbs to dealing with a rather interpersonal issue for both villagers and travelers to pick up and accept. This is a more low-stakes, system-separate way to have roleplay events that can help the community grow and provides interesting tidbits of stories that don't have to revolve around the village itself. Only villagers are able to leave requests, but anyone is able to accept them. We do not utilize our combat system for these, as we wish to allow travelers to partake and develop their own characters' stories. The Fates are specific, plot-based missions that are only available to villagers and are created to enhance and develop the overal story of Hananokuni. These are more involved and DM'd missions that utilize our battle system described below. Though only leadership can post the Fate missions, villagers can request certain situations be taken care of, and their input will be accounted for during the creation of the Fate mission. These do not all have to be combat, but they will offer some combat opportunities, and are thus only available to villagers. The battle system utilized is akin to DND rolls. You will get an additional x amount of points to a d20 roll during combat, depending on what you are rolling for. Examples include strategy, strength, and magic. This provides a bit of wiggle room for characters who are more proficient in some realms and can take the edge off of a bad roll. Though this system is only required during Fates, villagers are free to use them at will in other events, though we ask for them to perhaps temper their rolls during Leves, since travelers do not utilize the system.
